Bunaken Island

Bunaken is an area of 8.08 km ² island in the Bay of Manado, located in the northern island of Sulawesi, Indonesia. This island is part of the city of Manado, the provincial capital of North Sulawesi, Indonesia. Bunaken Island can be achieved by speed boat (speed boat) or a rented boat with about 30 minutes journey from the port city of Manado. Around the island there Bunaken Bunaken marine park which is part of the Bunaken National Park. This marine park has a marine biodiversity one of the highest in the world. Scuba diving attracts many visitors to the island. Overall Bunaken marine park covers an area of 75,265 hectares with five islands within it, namely the island of Manado Tua, Bunaken Island, Island Siladen, Mantehage Island follows several children his island, and island Naen. Although covering an area of 75,265 hectares, the location of the dive (diving) is limited in each of the five beaches that surround the island.
Paradise for the divers

Many people come to visit to enjoy the beauty of Bunaken Sea, especially divers. Sea in the region still has a coral reef area that is rich with various species of fish and other marine life such as starfish, sea cucumbers, and others.
For the visitors who can not swim, tour boats are equipped with glass boxes at the bottom of the boat. The visitors can enjoy the beauty of Bunaken Sea through the glass box.

Besides the beauty of the famous Bunaken Sea, this region is also famous for his discovery of an ancient fish coelacanth. It is said that this fish is only found in two places in the world, namely in the Marine Park and the Comoros, Northwest Africa.
Coelacanth fish in the Park is a species of Latimeria menadoensis while in Africa is the species Latimeria chalumnae. These findings alarming to the researchers, because the distance between the two species is about 10,000 kilometers and through deep ocean waters.
The fish that the locals called selakan fish, was first identified by Mark V. Erdmann. Fish that live at depths of 80 meters is one of the ancient fish species are endangered and protected.
Why fish coecalanth ancient fish called? According to experts, this fish is believed to have existed on earth since the Devonian era, a period about 380 million years ago. And according to the experts too, after millions of years, these fish never underwent evolution.
